What the heck were we thinking?

We left the Newmar factory and we had 1 more stop in Grand Rapids, MI before crossing into Canada. We bought our coach at Midway RV in Grand Rapids, a smaller east coast dealer – and picked it up on June 28th, 2014. We had asked for an upgrade which they agreed to do, however, the parts would not be available until mid-July so we would have to come back. Not a problem – we REALLY wanted that upgrade.

The original set-up included a 21” wide credenza, a bank of 3 drawers (including 1 file drawer), a slide out printer table, a slide out keyboard table and a double door 2-shelf cupboard underneath the table. The table was a pull-out to accommodate seating for 2 or 4 and the chairs were more formal, firm dining chairs. We REALLY wanted that upgrade so this is all coming out.

Back at the dealer in July ’14 the entire original set-up was removed and we had the EURO booth installed and this set-up included banquette seats (each with a pull-out drawer on the bottom) and a table. We thought it was so cozy and we REALLY wanted this upgrade.

But… the seats could really only sit 1 person on each side (and 1 cat), the table could hold not more than 2 plates and 2 glasses – and 1 computer –  and we lost some extra storage. After 6 months of use the seats were “squishy” and too low, the quality was deteriorating, you could hardly pull the drawers out, it was becoming harder and harder to slide out of (nothing to do with age…) and I didn’t like it!

J: Chuck, we have to call the dealer.
C: What for?
J: I want this Euro set-up removed. I want the credenza and table & chairs re-installed!
C: We can’t call the dealer – they’re going to think we’re crazy! I’m not calling them.
J: I will… And I did – via e-mail

Hi Chad:

We’re in sunny California in the Palm Springs area – getting ready to play pickle ball this afternoon and golf on Wednesday so we’re having a great time.  Weather is perfect during the day and cools down nicely at night for sleeping.  We love the coach!  It’s perfect and we’re enjoying everything it has to offer!

I know we’re scheduled for some work starting on May 11th and I’d like to add to the list…

I would like to have the credenza/desk and table re-installed…  I’m afraid the Euro bench is getting too soft; the quality deteriorating and the bench is squishing down too low to sit comfortably (for me).

Can we make this happen?  How?  How much?  Should we get this done at Midway – or back at Newmar?

Appreciate your comments and assistance.

Thanks,
Jacquie Johnson

Jacquie,

It’s good to hear from you.  I am extremely jealous!!!

I talked to the owner of the dealership.  We still have the desk dinette here that came out of your coach.  As long as we get to keep the booth instead of the desk, we are fine with just switching the two when you come in May 11 for service.  We will only charge you for the labor to exchange them.  I cc’d Dave in service on this email so he would be aware of the exchange.  I don’t know how much the labor will be but if you would like to check with Dave, I’m guessing he can give you a better idea.

Sincerely,
Chad DeMaat

Yahoo! I did it!

The new set-up includes a 21” wide credenza, a bank of 3 drawers (including 1 file drawer), a slide out printer table, a slide out keyboard table and a double door 2-shelf cupboard underneath the table. The table is a pull-out to accommodate seating for 2 or 4 and the chairs are more formal, firm dining chairs. We REALLY wanted this upgrade.

It feels like we have a new coach, but, REALLY – what the heck were we thinking?
